MOD POST: Major Depressive Episode Edition!

I am hijacking the community in order to start a new prompt. Sufficient numbers of us are in major depressive episodes to warrant a theme about it, and given the energy lack that comes with it, we are lowering the bar.

The goal is to write something in approximately a week. The requirement is that it not be about suicide or likewise seriously depressing. A thousand words could be the goal, but whatever you feel like you can manage.

Bonus for a distinct lack of bitterness.

MOD POST: Crackfic challenge

I, true to form, am a fake mod who is utterly disorganized.

However, I thought it might be distinctly good for us all to mock ourselves. As opposed to mocking each other, you see.

I feel that parody/crack fics should be written with the Cravateer cast, as the closest we have gotten so far is the Mark/Moses nonsense. This is my Stephenish opinion. Thoughts, please.

Proposed pairings or scenarios have included MarkghostMosesghostJulian ghostsex orgy. (The best part is that it was Simon's idea. Of all people. You think you know your subjunctive husband.) If you write such a thing, you are a braver man or Callirhoe than I.

Feel free to include whoever you like, I think. If you would like to include Tim Burton characters, or Dorian Gray, or Jack Kerouac, IT ONLY INCREASES THE CRACK.

Just remember this -

Tranowrimo: No idea is too threeinthemorning.

ETA: Prompts put together via drawing from a hat. First come, first served.

Gentlemen and Callirhoe, start your engines.

Also, CONFESSION: I really want to read George and Terence with zombies.

MOD POST: Fiction Exchange Character Information

This was deemed necessary, so. I suppose comments to this post could be character information for the characters you're offering up for crossover, or perhaps you could link to a journal entry containing same.

MOD POST: Week Not-Quite-Five

So, guys. A fic-exchange. Everybody I talked with on the boards thought it was a good idea, and so here I am to work out the logistics of the thing.

How do we want to work this thing? We could have randomly assigned pairs, you could choose your own partner, you could chose whom you want to write fic for and ey could write for whomever ey wanted, or you could pick who you wanted to write fic for you. There could be limitations or requests (like, say, I could ask someone to write me a fic with Lee's cast instead of Gabe's) or even just vague prompts.

Opinions, questions, ideas, comments, etc. please!

(Hopefully this all makes sense. If not, I blame you, Sudafed!)

MOD POST: Week Four

Apologies for the lateness, folks. Life got in the way.

Here's your challenge, to start tomorrow: First you need to get some vague idea of what you want to do, then you need to pick a two digit number. Summarize your ideas plotwise into one word (it can be a theme, motif, conflict, event, whatever) and Google image search with that word as your term. Then you go to the page that's the same number as the tens place, and then you pick the image that's the number of the ones place on that page.

You've got until next Saturday, and, as always, it's 5k by then, which is 715 a day.

Have fun!

MOD POST: Week Three!

Tomorrow is the beginning of Week Three! How very exciting!

Here's your challenge, this time from the saintly (but not Saintly) simonia: No romance! Besides that, run wild.

Modly things: Check-in posts: yes? no?
Prompt/challenge suggestions are always appreciated. It's the first or second entry here, and the comments are screened.

MOD POST: Week Two

Week Two starts tonight at midnight, whatever time zone you are.

Here's the prompt: Use the first song that comes up on random play in your fic in some way or another. It doesn't have to be an obvious influence. The way they fit together doesn't have to make sense to anybody but you. And if you get a really crap song? You can always cheat. I won't know. ;)

You can ignore the prompt and have your 5k on anything at all.

Have fun!

MOD POST: Week One, Day Seven

Ack! Day Seven is here! Not over yet, though, so don't panick. You've still got time to finish. Hopefully, anyhow. You should have your 5k, be it awful or wonderful, by twelve tonight.

(We are on the honor system, though, so if you do cheat, I most certainly will not know. ;) Just sayin'.)

Anyhow, post your stats here. Keep writing, and good luck!

MOD POST: Week One, Day Two

Hey, look. It's a check-in post.

So, how are you guys doing? Are your stories alive and kicking or are they (to steal a phrase) woefully ded?

Mathematically speaking you should have 1430 words by the end of the day, but if you don't it's easy enough to make up, so don't sweat it.

Oh, and another thing: Please don't hotlink mckenzee's images. Link to the page with the strip you're using. That was he gets ad-hits and more people are led to his site. (I don't think anyone has done this, but better safe than sorry.)

Anyhow, post your stats in the comments, along with any 'Oh god this is awful's or any 'I think this may not suck's or anything elses you have to say. You can also post what you've written so far in the community itself, if you want.

Have fun and keep writing!

MOD POST: Week One

Week One starts tonight at midnight, whatever time zone you are, and ends a week later, obviously.

Here's the prompt: Go to Sinister Bedfellows and look through the archives. Pick a strip to use as inspiration. You can use the words or the pictures or both. It can be as obvious or as subtle an influence on the finished product as you want.

As always, you can ignore the prompt and have your 5k on anything at all.

You can post your progress here, or you can wait until the week's over and dump it all then. If you do post, it would be nice if you could link the strip you picked.

Have fun!
